When we left the canoes, we went on the Haunted Mansion Holiday, then over to Tomorrowland where we rode Autopia. Then it was time for dinner. We walked over to Main St and got in line for Carnation. It's a good thing we got there when we did, because they were closing down shortly. This really surprised us, another sign of the many cutbacks at the resort (like the discontinance of Early Morning entry for Disney Resort Hotel guests).
We took up two tables. And we took our time looking over the menus. I was unhappy to find out they didn't have beef strogonoff as I had found on one of the menus online, but obviously, that menu was outdated. Brian and I both had pot roast, but I ended up wishing I'd had what AJ had had. Pasta with lots of garlic and, I think, it also had chicken. I think I would have liked that more. Brian and I split a dessert, chocolate brownie with chocolate ice cream and fudge sauce. He complained that it was too chocolatey, I disagreed, saying there was no such thing. The tables started to clear out and our group relaxed. A parade went down Main St and we started talking with our server, Tom. Tom was a very nice young man. We discussed the parade (some of the cast members were in huge glass bubbles and he said that during the hottest days of the year, they had to do the same thing over and over to be shown on commercials on television; I'm surprised they didn't get heatstroke). We discussed annual passholders who are royal pains in the ass. He told us about special pins that are available that are limited to passholders with the purchase of x dollar amount of food; he said they now have baskets available for that amount and some passholders would come in and say they wanted this, they wanted that for their baskets, ordering multiple baskets; one of the servers was so busy filling their orders (and after they'd gotten their baskets, they wanted their passholder discount, which put them below the amount needed for the pins, so they added pastries to their orders) that she was unable to adequately take care of her other guests and they complained about her poor service. To add insult to injury, the jerks (my word) who ordered the baskets left her nothing for her time. Grr..... After that, the servers told the manager to do the baskets, which I guess worked out okay. Personally, I think there should be a limit to how many of the pins you can get at a time. Not that I collect pins.
Since we were the last ones at dinner, Tom said they had an extra slice of apple pie, did anyone want it? If no one did, it would have been thrown away. Jon, ever a growing boy, spoke up and got the pie. The bill paid, we all got up and stretched and went to our next destination, Mr. Lincoln.
AJ has this thing about animatronics. She thinks they're freaky, the stuff of nightmares. Which is why we were determined to get her onto as many animatronic attractions as possible. We walked down Main St and had just missed the current show. We waited a few minutes, then entered the building. We walked around looking at all of the things they've got up, then got our headsets and went into the theater. It wasn't too bad, I guess, but AJ still wasn't really excited about Mr Lincoln.
From there we headed to Fantasyland, where we rode Casey Jr. Brian, Eric, Jon and I went on while the others took a nicotine break. They had just arrived when we were disembarking. Then they rode Casey Jr and we got in line for the Storybook Land Canal Boats. The line was long enough that they'd finished their ride and came over to join us. We got an entire boat to ourselves. It was pretty neat. Sal rocked the boat, which made a few people nervous. Bad Sal.
And with that, we closed the park.
